CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati Public Schools board voted against a proposed name change for the School for Creative and Performing Arts.
The 4-3 vote was cast Monday night.
A proposal had been made to change the school's name to honor the late Erich Kunzel, conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
A number of students opposed to the name change spoke at Monday night's board meeting.
"We've been talking about that this decision is going to be made in the best interest of the community, but I'm not sure that everyone really understands who the community is because in my opinion, the most important community is the ones that are most directly affected by this,” said one of the students who stepped up to the mic.
The issue now goes to the school board's policy committee for more discussion.
