Kids got to invent things from used stuff this week at Summerside Elementary School.
The kids participated in "Camp Invention," which guides children ages five to 12 along a journey to explore the STEM (Science, Technology, Energy, Mathematics) fields.
The kids get to participate in hands-on experiments for four days – and the hopes of Summerside Elementary Camp Invention director Sarah Bosey and her staff is for the campers to gain a better understanding of how things work through creative learning.
"They are learning how to clean up the environment. They are learning how to take things apart and rebuild them. They are all problem-solving skills they will use later in life,” she said.
The program is designed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation and is supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
And it is supposed to make learning fun.
But, camper Zechariah Crouch sees it differently. "This thing has been like school which is a little fun – but, not that much," he said.
