MAYSVILLE, Ky. -- A Mason County boy is recovering in the hospital after a fire ripped through his family's mobile home on Friday.

Crews were called to the home in the 7800 block of KY 11 South in Maysville around 11:30 a.m.

The fire department says the four-year-old boy was sleeping on the couch when the fire broke out. His father ran through the fire to rescue his son. He was taken to the hospital with burns and a head injury. His injuries are considered non life-threatening.

The boy suffered second and third degree burns to over 80 percent of his body. He was taken to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati before he was transported to Shriner's.

The mother was able to make it out of the home safely.

Investigators believe the fire may have started from a receptacle where an artificial Christmas tree was plugged into.

The fire remains under investigation.
