The prosecution called its final witness Wednesday in the trial of a Northern Kentucky teacher accused of having sex with a student.

Nicole Howell is on trial accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student at her Covington apartment in November of 2008.

The detective handling the case against the former Dayton high school teacher took the stand on Tuesday.

Detective Brian Frodge with Covington Police testified there were 430 text messages sent from October 29, 2008 to December 2, 2008.

Frodge added the teen also texted the teacher 368 times.

Under cross examination, the detective agreed that the texting didn't mean the two were having sex.

Defense Attorney Eric Deters also asked about physical evidence in which the detective responded there was none.

The defense is expected to begin their case on Thursday.

Defense attorney Eric Deters says he will call the defendant Howell to the stand.

She faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
