ST. BERNARD, Ohio -- Residents in St. Bernard had a chance to discuss landfill concerns with the Ohio EPA Tuesday night.
Questions of safety prompted the public hearing.
City officials have detected elevated levels of underground methane at the landfill south of Bank Avenue.
That triggers worries of a possible explosion.
The EPA says it's doing everything it can to make sure it protects residents.
“What we're faced with right now, the city, as well as its consultants and a number of other parties, are making sure that the risk is abated cost-consciously, effectively and appropriately,” said Ralph Hirshberg, of Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc.
The EPA said it will put monitors in residents' yards to track methane levels.
