Vevay, Indiana kicked off it's 38th annual wine festival Friday afternoon.

The small town expects a record crowd this year because it was named the fourth "Coolest Small Town" in the country by Budget Travel Magazine.

Since the recognition back in March, the town has seen a large jump in sales over last year’s.

"Over last year our lodging properties have increased 10-15% on overnight stays," explained Natasha Turner, of the Switzerland County Tourism department. "Our stores have went up 30% and our foot traffic has increased 20-30%."

The tourism department attributes the increase in revenue to the publicity they have received from the magazine’s ranking.

Article after article has been written from as far as Chicago to the local media outlets in Louisville, Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

One couple from Cincinnati traveled to the area for genealogy research, not tourism.

"What gets me is the fact that they've taken care of the store fronts," said John Lauderbaugh. "It looks like a nice little town."

Lauderbaugh and his wife were inside "Bizarre Ladies," a boutique that sells original art, antiques and home decor. Obviously, their hunt for past relatives changed course.

Lauderbaugh's wife Joanne explained the agenda switch, "I didn't know where I was headed."

But once she found that the town offered many eateries and shops, she and her husband could not keep away.

John summed up their day, "Just piddling around and seeing the sights."
