FFA & 4-H Members Beat Heat At Dearborn County Fair

Last Update: 6/26 11:21 pm
Emily Harm was hard at work Thursday trying to keep her champion pigs cool at the Dearborn County fair.

With temperatures into the 90s, it was hard work to stay one step ahead of Mother Nature.

The Sunman, Ind. teenager occasionally sprayed water over the snouts of the animals, producing a grunt of delight.

That's not the only trick she has up her sleeve.

"We have fans on, but we always have to take them to the wash rack to rinse them off and calm them down," she said.

Harm has a dozen blue ribbons she's won for her work with animals at the fair. Her first place award came in the first year she's entered them.

A surprise visitor to the livestock area Thursday was Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, who said he loves to attend as many county fairs as possible.

"I have always said that if you are ever troubled about our future and the problems we have with our country, spend some time with 4-H or FFA kids and you will feel very, very confident that America is in good hands," the Governor stated.
