FORT HOOD, Texas -- A U.S. Army spokesman says Major Nidal Malik Hasan has been taken off a ventilator Saturday, but still remains in intensive care at a military hospital.
He is able to communicate and hopefully give authorities an explanation as to why he allegedly went on a shooting spree Thursday killing 13 people and wounding 29 others.
A Mason woman says she listened to the screams as the attack was happening. Melissa Berry says her husband Sgt. Joshua Berry was in the building and called her from his cell phone.
A memorial for those killed is planned for Tuesday.
