BATAVIA, Ohio -- Clermont Animal Shelter has put up a Holiday Wish Tree to help the homeless and unwanted animals in their shelter.

The tree has white and blue snowflakes on it.

"We invite everyone to come out and pick either a white or blue snowflake from the tree, purchase the item on the tag, bring the gift to the shelter and keep the snowflake for your own tree," Animal Shelter Director Kim Naegel said.

White snowflakes on the tree are for a variety of items ranging from office supplies, garbage bags, clay cat litter, stamps, gift cards and rawhide dog treats.

The blue snowflakes are for larger items, such as a copy machine, digital camera and a commercial washer and dryer.

Naegal says the struggling economy has had an impact on the family pets, "We've had a number of cases this year where families have had to relocate from houses to apartments, and could no longer keep their dog or cat. It's heartbreaking."

Naegal wants the public to know that Clermont Animal Shelter has a number of wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption, including purebreds as well as designer dogs.
