Ill. Cab Driver Arrested In Connection To Murder

Last Update: 11/04 8:34 pm
An arrest has been made in connection to the murder of a Russian immigrant several years ago.

The skeletal remains of Aleksander Alferov were found by a sanitation worker along State Route 22 in Hamilton Township in May 2007.

It took a global journey to find the victim's identity.

A 40-year-old Chicago cab driver is now facing charges in connection with Alferov's death.

Ermek Abdildaev of Gurnee, Illinois is charged with gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Abdildaev has not been charged with murder. His arrest stems from allegations that he assisted in disposing of the body of Alferov.

Though his remains were not found until 2007, investigators say Alferov's death occurred between August and September 2000.

“This is a shining example of agencies working together,” said Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel. “We will continue to work together to ensure that justice is done.” Hutzel added.
