Young kids determined to help a fellow student washed cars in Newport Saturday.
With the help of seniors from Newport High School, students from Fourth Street Elementary hosted a car wash to raise money for Coins for a Cure, a non-profit to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
A 4th grader at the school, Christopher "Critter" Smith, has battled Leukemia this year.
"They know who Chris is, he goes to school here, so they realize what they're doing here today is going to go to help finding a cure for him, and for all the other children and adults living with Leukemia now," said 2nd grade teacher Nichole Mayse.
The car wash was part of the students' year long service learning projects, which will culminate Sunday with
Global Youth Service Day.
