Ky. Child Dies Bringing Cookies To Mail Carrier

Last Update: 12/24/2008 11:53 am
HARDINSBURG, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky state police say an 11-year-old Breckinridge County girl who was bringing cookies to her mail carrier was hit by a truck and killed.

Police say Lydia Hilty was struck Tuesday afternoon by a 1999 Chevy Silverado driven by 34-year-old Bobby D. Leslie of Falls of Rough.

State police trooper Steve Pavey, spokesman for post 4, says the girl accidentally stepped out into the roadway from behind the mail truck when she was hit.

Pavey says the incident remains under investigation, but it appears to be a tragic accident. He adds it does not appear it was weather-related.
