NORWOOD, Ohio -- All lanes have been reopened after a chemical spill on northbound I-71 just north of the Smith Edwards Road exit.

People who normally take northbound I-71 on their way home from work still faced a long commute as traffic congestion was slowly relieved Wednesday evening.

Norwood police say a tractor trailer leaked some kind of corrosive chemical north of the Smith Edwards Road exit shortly after 4 p.m.

Norwood firefighters say a driver saw something leaking from the truck and called 911. Police responded and the truck pulled over.

Police shut down all northbound lanes of the interstate.

A HazMat team was called to the scene.

Investigators say 50 gallons of "Nexguard,"  a cleaning solution used for industrial equipment, spilled onto the highway.

The northbound lanes of I-71 were shut down for two hours during the cleanup, causing major traffic delays. The scene finally cleared after 7 p.m.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes.

There have been no injuries reported, but the truck driver has been cited.
