CINCINNATI -- A major school bus contractor that takes over 22,000 Tri-state students to school could have its Ohio school bus operating license suspended.

Ohio Public Safety Department officials say they plan to invoke up to a six month suspension of license against First Student School Bus, Inc. because it didn't have required background check paperwork for all of its drivers.

This could mean that school districts in Cincinnati, Reading, Wyoming and New Miami that rely on First Student for its school bus service could have to find alternatives as early as January.

State officials have notified First Student that it could face a suspension of its license and the company now has 10 days to tell the state why it should not have its license revoked.

Public safety officials say 2 years ago they put First Student on a 2 year probation for not having all drivers' background checks available on file.

First Student has told reporters it has received the state's warning letter, and is starting to look into the problems uncovered in the state's audit.

Cincinnati Public School officials don't believe there will be any disruption in school bus service.
