ROSS, Ohio -- Some local baseball moms are making a pitch to 'strike out' brain cancer.
Devastated by the plight of a boy on their sons' baseball team, Diane Siereveld and other moms in Ross are organizing the "Strike-Out Brain Cancer" benefit for the family of 9-year-old Nik Scheffler.
Nik, who'll be a 4th grader at Morgan Elementary this fall, was diagnosed in December with brain cancer and spent months in the hospital. As he continues his fight through on-going chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he is still in and out of the hospital.
"He is the most caring sensitive little boy I think I've ever met," says Siereveld. Her son, Eric, plays on the same baseball team as Nik, "S and S Custom Homes" through the Morgan-Ross Athletic Association.
"All the moms got together and decided we have to help out," said Siereveld.
The benefit will be held Saturday, August 29th at Pier 27-US 27 in Ross, Ohio. It begins at 2 p.m. and will be 21 and up after dark.
The benefit will feature a cornhole tournament, food, live music, family activities, a silent auction, split-the-pot and raffles.
Donations and volunteers are still needed. For more information contact Kim Sierra at
