NEWPORT, Ky. -- Where Rosemary Orr is shopping, the choices are limited.
She has come to the Brighton Center on Ann Street in Newport to help feed her family of six.
'They're my worry," she says, as she selects some canned corn. "I don't worry about myself, I worry about them."
And so does the Brighton Center.
While food donations have been pretty constant, the demand has skyrocketed.
Last year at this time they had serviced 298 families.
This year, 835 families have come to them for help.
"It's been overwhelming for us," says Talia Frye, the community building coordinator.
Brighton Center volunteer Maynard Stamper tries to keep the shelves of the pantry stocked.
He says, "It just seems like every month there's more and more need. "
The basement storeroom where he gets the food is almost empty.
That worries Frye: "With what we have," she says, "we won't make it 'til Friday."
The Brighton Center is looking for canned food donations so they can continue to serve the needy.
Donations can be dropped off at 799 Ann Street in Newport, KY 41072 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
