Firefighters in Glendale brought in special equipment Friday to control a stubborn mulch fire.
Brush and mulch collected from September's windstorm caught fire at a former landfill on North Troy Avenue Thursday night.
On Friday afternoon, contractors with heavy equipment moved some of the mulch so firefighters could knock down the flames.
"We saw smoke and smelled smoke and didn't know what it was until it got bad enough to where it was coming up," said Joe Seta, of Glendale. "And then last night, it clouded up the whole neighborhood."
The fire is contained, but firefighters will check the area periodically to make sure it is out.
No one was injured.
