FORT WRIGHT, Ky. -- On Wednesday, investigators may release a possible cause of a fire that forced a northern Kentucky hotel to evacuate overnight.

Fire crews got the call shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, and Chief Steve Schewe of the Fort Wright Fire Department was one of the first on scene.

"There were flames showing, coming out of the front windows. The windows were already popped out due to the heat," said Chief Schewe.

"There was debris flying over my head, debris that was on fire," said a guest, looking back at the hotel.

Crews contained the fire to two rooms on the third floor of the hotel. Schewe told 9News the room where the fire started did not have a guest staying in it.

"It shouldn't be too hard to figure out what caused the fire," said Schewe.

Schewe says investigators always start by looking for a suspicious cause and move away from that when the evidence presents itself.

In the meantime, a neighboring hotel property had a room available for everyone displaced from the fire.

Investigators plan to release a cause of the fire Wednesday morning, which they believe was either electrical or intentionally set.
