INDEPENDENCE, Ky. -- A new ordinance in Independence now gives officials greater control over when to label a dog as “vicious.”
The new law was approved on Monday.
Previously, a dog had to bite someone to be declared a danger, but now officers can issue citations and let the courts decide if the animal is a threat.
The ordinance does not specify any breed.
Complaints from wary pedestrians triggered the call for change.
