New Richmond Fire Doesn't Ruin Man's Christmas

Last Update: 12/26/2009 8:33 am
NEW RICHMOND, Ohio -- It was a busy Christmas Eve for fire crews as they responded to a burning home Thursday night.

The fire happened on the 400 block of Columbia Street around 6 p.m.

It took firefighters an hour to put out the flames.

The homeowner, Carl Goldbach, was out doing some last minute Christmas shopping, so fortunately no one was home during the fire.

Goldbach says he's very happy his two dogs weren't hurt in the fire.

"I said 'guys, I'm four presents short, I'm gonna let you guys stay outside and I'm gonna run up to Walmart and get some more Christmas presents, I'll be back with ya.'" Goldbach said. "But if it'd been real cold, I would've left them inside and they might not have made it through that."

Goldbach's two dogs are staying with family and the Red Cross has arranged a place for him to stay.

Goldbach is still planning to attend his family Christmas celebration on Christmas Day.
