After much debate, the Registered Nurses Association (RNA) of University Hospital and University Hospital representatives agreed to a new 2-year contract.

This contract, which lasts from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011, covers all wages and conditions of employment for the 1,200 nurses at University Hospital. The contract also addresses a variety of mutual interests and concerns and provides a pleasing workplace for the nursing staff.

Mavis Bechtle, Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer, commented, "We are very pleased to have a new contract in place. This agreement represents months of collaborative meetings between RNA representatives and University Hospital representatives committed to establish a contract that would benefit the hospital, the nurses and the community."

"Recognizing these are tough economic times for the hospital, our membership and negotiating team agreed to some significant and difficult concessions," said Mary Murphy, RNA president.

The RNA is the local unit of the Ohio Nurses Association.

University Hospital houses the area's only adult Level I Trauma Center and multi-solid organ transplant center.
