Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was named Wednesday by the NFL as the AFC offensive player of the week.
Palmer posted a career-high 146.7 passer rating in last week's 45-10 drubbing of the Chicago Bears. He completed 20 of 24 passes for 233 yards and five touchdowns.
His plus-five differential between touchdowns and interceptions was Palmer's career-best and tied a Bengals record set previously by Boomer Esiason against Tampa Bay in 1989.
Palmer led the Bengals to scoring drives on their first seven possessions (6 touchdowns and one field goal).
This is the second time the former Heisman Trophy winner has won the award. The last time was in 2004 after the Bengals beat the Ravens.
The last Bengal to win the award was Chad Ochocinco in 2007.
Last month, defensive end Antwan Odom earned defensive player of the week and month honors. Unfortunately, he was lost for the season after injuring his Achilles tendon against the Houston Texans.
This isn't the only recognition Palmer has received after his performance last week. He, along with running back Cedric Benson have been nominated for the FedEx air and ground players of the week. To vote for the Bengals in that award click
