Political Blogger Withdraws From Mayor Race

Last Update: 7/04 12:49 am
A Cincinnati political blogger and activist has withdrawn his name from the mayoral primary and will now run for Cincinnati School Board.

Jason Haap presented the City of Cincinnati with a symbolic "big check" on July 2 representing the $413,000 he will save the city's budget by not running.

The future of Cincinnati's schools are intertwined with the future of Cincinnati, Haap said. He added that he hopes to raise the profile of the school board race with his concept for proportional cuts, a plan that will eliminate school leaders who make cuts on student essentials.

"I call on the schools to adopt a policy which dictates that any cuts to any services affecting students-- from busing, to extracurriculars, to arts, to a reduction in teaching staff--should be reflected in a collateral and proportional cut to central office administrators," Haap said.
