High winds in the last few hours have many homeowners worried about their trees cracking or falling.
Gardening Expert Denny McKeown says most of the weak trees fell in the September windstorm and ice storms. He explained the trees most likely to fall are the ones located by power lines that have not been properly maintained. He said because it is winter we do not have to worry about the sail effect.
"Back on September 14 the sail effect took place with the leaves on the trees and the winds blowing against them. That's a lot more resistance. It's kind of like a sail boat, that t moves the boat in the water. With the leaves off the tree, you have a minimum amount of sale," explained McKeown.
If you are worried about your trees health he advises you have a certified professional check them.
