SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Another winter storm is turing the Tri-State into a winter wonderland on Tuesday. But it was anything but a wonderland to drive in or walk through.
After a difficult, sometimes accident filled Tuesday morning rush hour, traffic along I-71 through Sycamore Township was running at close to the speed limit around the lunch hour.
It seems daytime traffic on the expressway has done most of the work of melting the snow making the travel lanes slushy rather than downright slippery.
Early Tuesday morning, several snow plows were making repeated passes along the Interstate. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) says it has 24 plow trucks struggling to reduce slippery spots on all the Tri-State expressways and major roads.
There is a lot more accumulated snow and slush on secondary roads and streets, with many schools closing and adults staying home from work.
Motorists reported the snow had easily doubled the time it took them to get to their jobs.
Leland Holmes of Madisonville says, "When I made it Montgomery Road and Kenwood, that's where it started to get slippery. I didn't see anyone skid off the road, but there were a few close calls. Thank God, I made it to work."
Kelly Korte drove to the Kenwood area from Montgomery. "Everybody expects that with a four-wheel drive, but that's not the case. We can slip and slide just as easily as anyone else. Seeing all the cars that went off the road or lost control in front of me, chances are they were four-wheel drives."
Some people who did have to go to work Tuesday, like Adam Chitwone, like the snowstorm because it means more money for them. Part of his job requires him to plow snow out of store parking lots.
Others apparently like the snow too, leaving their call for a blizzard, written in snow, on the back of a Hamilton County Engineering Department truck.
Even though snow fall has been heavy throughout the day, it's far from a blizzard.
