The Tampa Bay Rays are keeping the defending World Series champ from repeating the feat.
Tampa is waking up this morning as American League Champs, after beating the Red Sox 3 to 1.
This is the Rays first pennant. They'll play the Phillies Wednesday night. No team has repeated as World series champion since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998-2000.
The Rays celebrated their big win last night with champagne in the locker room. They went from bottom to the top in one year, with one of the worst record in the majors in 2007.
When the season started the rays were a 200-to-1 longshot to reach the World Series going into the 2008 season.
