HEBRON, Ky. -- Thanksgiving Eve is typically the busiest day to travel this long holiday weekend.

A spokesperson for the Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport says its new security check point has improved the check-in process this holiday season.

"This morning, we had some record high numbers coming through the check point compared to last year," said Barb Schempf, CVG public relations director. “It all went very smoothly with the new check point here up on the ticketing level, up at terminal 3. We had average wait times of about nine to 10 minutes, which I think is excellent on the day before Thanksgiving.”

There is nothing that could help cut Juandavid Zamora's flight time.

He's a student at the University of Cincinnati.

He will have to travel on a 10-hour flight home to Paris, France.

"The flight is pretty long, but it's okay,” said Zamora. “I've got a lot of books, music, so I'm going to enjoy the time."

John Kelly's flight is much shorter.

He's traveling from Cincinnati to Atlanta.

Kelly says he's already floating on “Cloud Nine.”

He didn't have to pay for his plane ticket.

"I'm going to Atlanta to my niece's. Each Thanksgiving the whole family gets together and my brother is flying me down, so it's free for me,” said Kelly. “So it's going to be great."

CVG says travel was on schedule for most travelers on Thanksgiving Eve with few flight delays.

As many travelers hit the road this Thanksgiving holiday, many say they're watching their pennies due to tighter budgets this year.

The budget is on a lot of people's minds, even as they get ready to celebrate the holiday with family and friends out of town.

Gary Wobb, his wife and son are traveling from Pittsburgh, PA  to Fort Knox, Ky.  by car.

Wobb pulled in at a Florence rest stop for a break.

Wobb is going to visit his son who just finished his basic training at the Army base.

Wobb says he needed to watch his budget and didn't want to pay for three plane tickets.

He says traveling by car also allows him to take the family dog with him.
