Good Morning...It's Monday November 16, 2009
It hasn't happened since 1998. The Bengals have swept the big bad Steelers. Cincinnati wins 18-12
WHERE DO WE START?
Let's start with Bernard Scott's 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Scott, the kid out of Abilene Christian got a lot of playing time because Cedric Benson was injured.
GREAT SCOTT!
Carson Palmer about Bernard Scott, "it was kind of his coming out party." Added Carson, "He's going to be a special player." He averaged 41 yards on five kickoff returns.
DEEE-FENSE DEEE-FENSE
The Steelers didn't score a touchdown during any of their four trips into the Red Zone. They settled for a Jeff Reed field goal each time. They sacked Ben Roethlisberger four times and limited Rashard Mendenhall to only 36 yards on 13 carries.
THE REAL DEAL
Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark said about the Bengals, "they're clearly the best team in the division. I'd give my left arm to play them again." That might happen
THE GRIND
Marvin Lewis has seen a lot of games and he said, "this is probably the most grinding football game I ever experienced."
A GOOD GRIND
Chad Johnson called the team's success, "a breath of fresh air to be at this point of the season and to be playing for a reason. It feels really good."
THE COSBY KID
Bengals punt returner Quan Cosby was with Dennis Janson and myself on "Meijer Sports of All Sorts" Sunday night. He was asked about fielding an early punt at his own six yard line. He says the coaches told him to do that. He says Heinz Field was all chewed up, and they preferred him catching the ball to risking a wild bounce. He does what he's told.
DISBELIEF
The majority of the emails I've received can't believe the Bengals have a team that's so tough and so strong on defense. It's been a long time. I can't remember a strong defensive bunch like this since the Hank Bullough days.
NEW ENGLAND BLUNDER
I was in the studio last night when the Colts came back to beat the Patriots 35-34. Nobody could believe it. Bill Belichick chose not to punt in a fourth and two situation on his team's 28-yard line with about two minutes left in the game. They were leading by six.
The Colts defense held, and then Peyton Manning threw his fourth touchdown pass with :13 left. It went to Reggie Wayne.
IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY
I thought you'd never ask. If the season ended today, the undefeated Colts would be the AFC's #1 seed with the Bengals #2.
COLTS AND SAINTS
Both the Colts and the Saints remain unbeaten after another Sunday of football. The Saints beat the Rams 28-23.
THE MONDAY QUIZ
On this date in 2008, the Steelers rallied to beat the Chargers 11-10. What made this outcome unusual?

THE MONDAY QUIZ-THE ANSWER
When the Steelers beat the Chargers 11-10 a year ago, it was the first such final score in NFL history.
Time to go home. It's been a great weekend. Somebody asked me today when was the last time the Bearcats and Bengals had great seasons together.
Simple answer: Never.
When the Bengals went to their first Super Bowl in 1981, UC was 6-5. When the Bengals went to their second Super Bowl in 1988 UC was 3-8. Enjoy it. This is history in our town.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY
To my absolutely beautiful and wonderful sister-in-law Jeanne, who's birthday was Saturday.
