The big news this morning is the story about the woman taken to the hospital from Tiger Woods' home in Florida overnight.
I'll have to admit - I cannot get enough of the whole sorry story. Now 10 women say they've had extramarital affairs with Tiger. Who knows if they're all telling the truth. But he's admitted to "transgressions," and even without Roget, we can figure out what that means.
But we've seen this story before.
...in politics with Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Eliot Spitzer, Newt Gingrich and Mark Sanford.
...in sports with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, Shaq and Steve McNair.
...in entertainment with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Josh Brolin, Mel Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Balthazar Getty.
...in music with LeeAnn Rimes, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Bruce Springsteen.
And that's barely scratching the surface.
I have often suggested a new segment for GMTS: A Mug Shot Hall of Fame. We see some doozies and I feel that they need their time to shine.
Now I have an idea for a new segment. I'm going to have to clean up the title, but the PG version is something like Keep Yourself to Yourself. (The other version is much better, by the way.)
The point is, cheating has become so commonplace that it could be covered on a weekly basis. It's so pervasive that we hardly even notice - or even if we do, we don't remember just a few months later.
The thing with the Tiger Woods story is that he is (um, was) the squeakiest of clean, and he was married to a hot Swedish swimsuit model. And if I put on my public relations hat and had to guess, he'll claim his "transgressions" were a result of sex addiction.
If that addiction exists, (and there's a reason if is in bold and italics), here's a novel thought: exercise that addiction within the bounds of the vow you made before God and your family, or get divorced. Either one. But those are your only two options.
As we Google TMZ and check out tabloid TV shows, we're watching the collapse of the world's most famous athlete. And as sad as his story is for the families involved, it proves that no one's immune to the fickle light of fame.
Tiger says he wants his privacy. Fine. But if he thinks the world is going to forget this one, he's an iron short of a full bag.
He's complained before on the golf course when someone's cell phone went off. Wait 'til he hears what the crazies on the 16th hole at Phoenix have to say now.
And wait until his kids learn to read. He'll need some serious privacy settings on that computer.
"Daddy, what are 'transgressions'?"
My Favorites From Today's GMTS:
-Try It Out Tuesday: We tested the Invoca 3, a voice-activated remote control. It claims to be the "world's most advanced." Hmm. See what Sickmiller thought.
-South Bend Bound: UC football coach Brian Kelly told his team he's going to talk with Notre Dame about the Irish head coaching vacancy this week. Who can blame him? But I sure hope there's some flaw in their offer and he stays put. I also hope I wake up from this dream at some point.
