Tri-State Students Prepare For Spelling Bee

Last Update: 2/10/2009 9:22 pm

Almost 300 Tri-State students are practicing their spelling words at home Tuesday to prepare for the WCPO regional spelling bee.

Erica Courter is an 8th grader from Hamilton who will be at Saturday's competition at the Duke Energy Center in Downtown Cincinnati. She'll represent Hamilton's Garfield Middle School.

Courter said she's feeling the pressure to make her school look good. She said she's been practicing her words every day. She even has a friend who quizzes her on the school bus. Courter was home schooled through the 6th grade.

The winners of Saturday's spelling bee will represent our area in the Scripps National spelling bee.

E.W. Scripps is the parent company of WCPO and KyPost.com.
