Two firefighters were injured in the line of duty while battling a fire in Aurora, Indiana early Thursday morning.
Fire crews rushed to the Nordhoff residence in the 15000 block of State Route 148 just before 12:30 a.m. after receiving reports of heavy smoke coming from the home.
While crews fought the flames burning in the attic of the residence, part of the ceiling collapsed, injuring Aurora Firefighters Les Bruce and Chris Roush.
Emergency crews transported both men to the Dearborn County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries to the head, neck and back. Both firefighters have since been released from the hospital.
The remaining firefighters on the scene were able to control the blaze in 20 minutes with no other injuries.
Officials estimate the damage at $50,000. The cause remains under investigation.
Firefighters say a smoke detector in the home failed to alert the residents because there were no batteries in it.
