CINCINNATI -- A University of Cincinnati football player is off the field, and heading to court.
New star quarterback Zach Collaros faces jail time stemming from a charge of misrepresenting his age to obtain alcohol. But the bigger issue is his refusal to attend a court-ordered diversion program. Collaros will have to explain his absence in a Thursday morning court hearing.
Police say in May, Collaros used a fake I.D. to get into a bar in Corryville. It was about 3 months before he turned 21 years old.
The sophomore Bearcat was ordered to attend a program on the negatives of underage drinking, but has failed to do so.
He had already signed a statement of guilt on the citation, and paid a $200 fine. The course was the final portion of the agreement.
The misdemeanor holds a maximum sentence of six months in jail.
This doesn't come at a good time for the quarterback, who has helped number 5 ranked UC win several of its last games; helping the team's undefeated record thus far.
Collaros jumped in for starter Tony Pike when he was injured back in October.
No comment Thursday morning from UC or from Collaros.
Collaros has appeared in court at 9 a.m. Thursday.
