COVINGTON, Ky. – Mayor Denny Bowman and other dignitaries formally kicked off the 2010 Census in Covington and Northern Kentucky at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new local census office Friday.
The new office will offer 1200 opportunity for new jobs and workers can earn at least $13.75 an hour.

The office debuted with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, reception, then an office tour. The new center is located at 13 W. 7th St. in the old Sears building downtown.
Mayor Bowman delivered the keynote remarks, and stressed the importance of the new office: "
When you have a complete (census) count, you keep your representatives in congress, you make sure the funding sources that are available come to your community, such as funds for education, for health care, for your seniors, for your neighborhoods."William W. Hatcher, regional director of the Charlotte Regional Census Center, U.S. Census Bureau, was also in attendance. Guests included the Covington Holmes High School ROTC Color Guard and the Holy Cross High School Choir.
The Covington Local Census Office supports 2010 Census operations in 18 counties.
