Jesse Tyler Ferguson became engaged just days before Sofia Vergara

JESSE TYLER FERGUSON felt "upstaged" when his MODERN FAMILY co-star SOFIA VERGARA became engaged in Mexico just days after he proposed to his boyfriend there.

The actor popped the question to his lover of two years, Justin Mikita, during a trip to the country in July (12) and just days later, Vergara's partner Nick Loeb proposed while the couple was celebrating the actress' 40th birthday with a Mexican vacation.

Ferguson waited until this month (Sep12) to reveal his happy news and reveals he felt his announcement was slightly overshadowed by his co-star's engagement.

He tells Access Hollywood, "(Our engagement) happened in Mexico, ironically a few days before Sofia got engaged. I told Sofia the day before she got engaged, very quietly I said, 'Justin and I got engaged, but we don't want to tell a lot of people and we don't want to upstage you on your big birthday weekend,' and then the next day she gets engaged on a Tulum ruin! So, she has upstaged us."

Ferguson also admits he hasn't started planning for his wedding yet, adding, "Don't hold your breath."
