Listen up, parents. Your kid's morning bowl of cereal may have more sugar in that cookies.
That's coming from a new report by the Environmental Working Group . The consumer advocacy agency says only a quarter of children's cereals meet government guidelines for limits on sugar.
The report says some of the cereals even have more sugar than three chocolate chip cookies or one Twinkie. But some cereal makers take issue with the report.
Kellogg's says it has cut sugar in its cereal by 16 percent. And it says its cereals only make up a small part of added sugar in the U-S diet.
The Environmental Working Group is now listing the top 10 worst children’s cereals, based on percent sugar by weight
1.) Kellogg’s Honey Smacks: 55.6 percent
2.) Post Golden Crisp: 51.9 percent
3.) Kellogg’s Froot Loops Marshmallow: 48.3 percent
4.) Quaker Oats Cap’n Crunch’s OOPS! All Berries: 46.9 percent
5.) Quaker Oats Cap’n Crunch Original: 44.4 percent
6.) Quaker Oats Oh!s: 44.4 percent
7.) Kellogg’s Smorz: 43.3 percent
8.) Kellogg’s Apple Jacks: 42.9 percent
9.) Quaker Oats Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries: 42.3 percent
10.) Kellogg’s Froot Loops Original: 41.4 percent
