CINCINNATI - When it comes to fitness, we call have excuses for why NOT to workout today.
The usual suspects? I’m too busy. I don’t have any time. I’m too tired.
If you’re one of these folks, there's a perfect workout for you! It’s called Tabata, or the 4-minute workout.
We talked with Brian Calkins of HealthStyle Fitness who says that Tabata is a great workout for anyone looking to get fit.
“[It's] great for very well conditioned athletes, as well as everyday fitness seekers,” Calkins said.
Here’s how it works: Do eight sets of the following –
“It's very important to warm up thoroughly (10 - 15 minutes) before following the intense Tabata protocol,” he said.
We also want to mention that with starting any new workout routine, consult your doctor first. High-intensity interval training of Tabata can be tough, and has left exercisers breathless at times. Be sure to pay attention to how you feel, and stop if it doesn’t feel right. Again, consult your doctor.
