COVINGTON, Ky. - The resignation of Kenton County treasurer Kim Livesay last Friday caught administrators by surprise.
The letter she wrote announcing she was leaving apparently has launched a request by Judge-Executive Steve Arlinghaus for the Kentucky State Police to investigate possible wrongdoing.
The letter, which has not been made public, seems to contain allegations serious enough to warrant Arlinghaus to contact the County Police Chief and ask for KSP to get involved.
"Although, we have not received a final written report at this time," Kenton County Attorney Garry Edmondson said in a written statement, "we have no reason to believe any improprieties reaching the level of criminal charges will be forthcoming against any employee of the county."
Edmondson said the law requires an audit be performed to settle the county's accounts during the tenure of the former treasurer.
The departing treasurer is supposed to perform the accounting, but in this case it will be handled by an outside auditor.
