MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana conservation officers are investigating the shooting of a bald eagle in Morgan County.

The bird was found dead Feb. 1 on private property near the town of Eminence.

The bald eagle is protected by the federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, with fines of up to $250,000 and two years in prison.

"It is a senseless shooting of our national bird and a federally threatened species," Conservation Officer Jon Fennig said in a news release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 800-TIP-IDNR or visit www.1800tipidnr.org.
