COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio zoo says its newest pachyderm may be the largest elephant at any zoo in North America.

Hank was introduced for the first time on Thursday to many employees at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium after a one-month quarantine on zoo grounds.

The nearly 8-ton, 23-year-old Asian elephant was going on display for the public on Friday.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Hank is much larger than the zoo's two female elephants, Phoebe and Connie. Phoebe is smaller by half.

The new big man in the elephant house came from Riddle's Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary in Greenbrier, Ark. The zoo hopes for mating that will produce offspring.
