Richard L. Rawe, who in his 50-year career at The Cincinnati Post worked as city editor, business editor, editorial-page writer and investigative reporter, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas. He was 83.

He began his long career at the newspaper as a copy boy and over the years covered business news, real estate and aviation. He also was an editorial-page writer, senior investigative reporter, city editor and business editor.

He also wrote for Time and Life magazines and authored a book titled “Creating A World Class Airport.”

In 2004, he was inducted by the Cincinnati Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalist into the Cincinnati Journalism Hall of Fame.

A resident of Cold Spring, Ky., he served as a board member of the Northern Kentucky YMCA and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a World War II veteran who took part in the occupation of Japan.

A daughter, Ellen Strole, and son, John Rawe, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Richard Rawe Jr., Daniel Rawe, James Rawe, Gary Rawe, Chris Rawe, Eric Rawe and Jeff Rawe; daughters, Judy Bautista and Michele Gaffney; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19 at St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring, Ky. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Fares J. Radel Funeral Home in Cold Spring, Ky.
