Teddy K. Walls

MAYSVILLE, Ky. - Teddy K. Walls, 92, of Arvada, Colo. and previously of Maysville, Ky., died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Arvada.
A Bardstown, Ky. native, Mr. Walls attended Western Kentucky University on a football scholarship. He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1961, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He was a flight engineer on a Douglas C-54 Skymaster transport that set a trans-oceanic world record in February 1945, flying 10,876 miles from Miami to Calcutta in the “Hump Airlift” over the Himalayan Mountains. He also participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1948 and 1949 when supplies were flown into West Berlin to break the Soviet blockade of that city.
Mr. Walls was executive director of the Housing Authority of Maysville from 1963 to 1984, directing construction of the Beechwood Community Center and other buildings. In 1984 he was presented the key to the city for outstanding service to the citizens of Maysville.
He retired to Fort Myers, Florida, until 2007 when he moved to Arvada, Colorado, to be near his son Michael Walls.
His wife of 49 years, Frieda Brisley Walls, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons Donald Walls of Oakland, Calif., Richard Walls of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Michael Walls of Arvada, Colo.; daughters Rosemary Weathers Burnham of Union, Ky., and Margaret Walls of McLean, Va.; sisters, Hazel Pash and LaJune Jones, both of Bardstown, Ky.; brother Bill Walls of Bardstown; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 at the chapel at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Maysville, Ky. where he will be buried.
