Casino site gets go ahead to begin clean up

CINCINNATI - The developer and construction company handling the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati project have been given clearance to demolish the section of the casino that collapsed last week and injured 13 workers.
Rock Ohio Caesars and Construction and Messer Construction received approval from the city on Thursday to clear a 60 by 60 foot section of the casino floor that collapsed on Friday, Jan. 27. That work will begin Friday morning.
Approximately 100 workers returned to unrestricted sections of the site to resume work Wednesday morning.
Crews were on site Thursday bracing restricted areas and preparing for the demolition. The section will be re-built once the demolition is complete.
The investigation of the collapse has been completed by OSHA and city officials. OSHA has yet to release its final report. However, all aspects of the project have been approved and additional procedures have been implemented to keep workers safe.
The construction team has also assigned a second full-time safety manager for the project, according to Rock Gaming.
One person remains hospitalized.
Officials say in the coming weeks, the workforce will gradually increase back to about 200 workers daily.
