AIDS Walk raises highest total in a decade

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The annual Louisville AIDS Walk raised its largest sum in a decade, more than $206,000, for services to people with HIV/AIDS in the area.
Walk director Brad Hampton says it attracted more than 3,000 people this year despite gusting winds and the threat of rain on Sunday.
The walk started in Louisville in 1993. Many walkers now bring their pets along.
Hampton told The Courier-Journal that the winds were blowing tables over when the 2-mile walk started, but walkers were spared any rain.
He says the walk's total of $206,819 is preliminary and donations are accepted through the end of the year.
About 2,500 people live with HIV/AIDS in Louisville, with a few hundred more in southern Indiana, Hampton said.
