HAZARD, Ky. - Utility officials in Breathitt County say copper thieves risked their lives stealing from an American Electric Power substation.

Someone crawled under a fence at the Haddix substation over the weekend. They only got about 200 feet of copper wire, but they also stole some tools.

New River Electric Foreman Matt Trail told WYMT-TV anything above ground at a substation is clad in iron and isn't worth much if sold as scrap.
