GREENUP, Ky. - Authorities in eastern Kentucky have confirmed the identity of a man killed in a fire nearly three years ago.
Greenup County Coroner Neil Wright told The Independent that recent DNA results confirmed the victim was Randy Pickelsimer, who was 48 when he died.
Wright said identification was difficult due to the condition of Pickelsimer's body and a regular DNA?test came back inconclusive. He said a more extensive DNA?test finally confirmed the victim's identity.
Pickelsimer died March 5, 2009 when his home in South Portsmouth caught fire. Police say they determined the fire was intentionally set, making the death a homicide.
Police say they are still investigating the case. No one has been charged.
