Man sentenced in death of firefighter

HENDERSON, Ky. - A western Kentucky man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of murder stemming from a wreck on Valentine's Day that ended up with an off-duty firefighter and another person being killed.

The Gleaner reported that 59-year-old Albert David Williams of Spottsville also received 365 days for drunken driving. Court officials said during the hearing Monday that Williams must serve 85 percent of his sentence.

Williams admitted to driving his truck into the path of 29-year-old Jonathan Coomes' truck on Feb. 14 at about 5:20 p.m. CDT. Coomes, a Henderson firefighter, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Coomes' truck, 56-year-old Michael Pritchett of Baskett, died more than two months later from injuries suffered in the collision.
