LEXINGTON, Ky. - A former Montgomery County Jailer has been sentenced to five months in federal prison for misappropriating thousands of dollars belonging to the county government during his tenure.

U.S. District Judge Karl Forester on Friday also sentenced 51-year-old Everett Dewayne Myers to five months of home incarceration. Montgomery previously pleaded guilty to theft from a county agency receiving federal funds.

Myers paid $66,989 in restitution, representing the amount of county money he misappropriated.

Myers admitted that between July 2007 and July 2008 he engaged in a kickback scheme with jail vendors. The jail vendors created invoices for exaggerated or bogus services at Myers' direction. Myers paid the vendors for the services listed on the invoices with jail funds and then received a portion of the money from the vendors.
