GLASGOW, Ky. - A southern Kentucky sheriff facing federal civil rights violations charges says he won't seek re-election when his term ends in December 2013.

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton told The Daily Times that he may open a barbecue restaurant or look for a job with the Cincinnati Reds and spend time with his grandchildren.

Eaton didn't mention the federal indictment charging him and two deputies with using excessive force on Billy Randall Stinnett after he was arrested in February 2010, and to charges of falsifying documents and lying to federal investigators about the case.

Eaton and the deputies have pleaded not guilty.

Eaton is in his third term as sheriff.
