RICHMOND, Ky. - A former group home employee is set for sentencing on July 20 after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the June 2011 beating death of one of the home's residents.
Garrard County Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Lockridge has recommended a 20-year prison sentence for 22-year-old Tyler Brock of Corbin. Brock entered a guilty plea Tuesday in the death of 35-year-old Shawn K. Akridge at St. Joseph-Berea hospital in Paint Lick.
The Richmond Register reports that under Kentucky law, Brock will have to serve four years to become parole eligible if he receives a 20-year sentence.
Kentucky State Police say Akridge died after "an altercation" at the home.
Community Ties of America of Brentwood, Tenn., shut down the home, as well as the homes the company ran in Richmond and Waco.
