Man goes to prison in motorcycle death

PADUCAH, Ky. - A judge denied probation for a Paducah man whose stepdaughter was killed while riding a motorcycle with him.

Kira Bryant was 14 when she died in a crash in the summer of 2011.

Jamison K. Turney earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the case. Authorities said the 38-year-old Turney's blood-alcohol level was 0.09 percent and noted he had allowed his stepdaughter to ride behind him without a helmet.

The Paducah Sun reported Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Raymond McGee had opposed the defense request for probation of the five-year sentence, saying early release of a drunken driver who killed a teenager would unduly depreciate the seriousness of the crime.

McCracken Circuit Judge Tim Kaltenbach denied the probation request. He had earlier denied a request for shock probation.
